Welcome!

Welcome to the inaugural post here at Forget the Destination.

If I were you, the first question I would be asking is, “Why should I follow your blog when there are at least 10,000 other travel blogs out there already?”

That’s a terrific question, and the honest answer is: I don’t know.  Not yet, at least.  What I do know is that there is a lot of redundancy out there in the travel blogosphere.  My aim is to provide new information that you won’t see elsewhere.  That kind of information is neither easy to come by, nor frequently discovered—which necessarily means that I actually aim to post infrequently.  If someone else already posted it, there’s no reason for me to cross-post it.  You’ve probably read it already.

So with That Out of the Way, Who am I?

In a nutshell, I am business traveler who also happens to love leisure travel simply for the sake of travel itself, with the ultimate goal of experiencing the world’s best premium cabin products.  To me, destinations truly are an afterthought.  As long as there are interesting premium cabin products available to said destinations, I’m more than happy to visit them.

How Did I Get Here?

I cut my teeth on the miles and points game one fateful day back in 2008 when I simultaneously stumbled upon two absolutely critical blogs that I still follow religiously to this very day: Ben Schlappig’s One Mile at a Time, and Gary Leff’s View from the Wing.

For almost a decade, I have been following these two amazing bloggers, and I have learned more than I ever thought possible.  And quite frankly, I rarely thought I had much to offer them in return for their efforts.  But, when those rare moments did arise, I’ve always enjoyed sharing any information I happen to stumble upon.

For example, I’ve occasionally “guest authored” at One Mile at a Time here and there:

  1. Story Of AMAZING Service At The Ritz-Carlton Beijing
  2. Story from a reader!

Likewise, at View from the Wing, I’ve contributed morsels of information whenever possible.  For example:

Lufthansa First Class Award Space Available.. But Not When You Look in the Usual Places

For many years, those were the only two blogs I paid attention to.  And they served me well.  But, “recently” around 2015, I began noticing a pattern in Gary’s regular “News and notes from around the interwebs” column.  Specifically, he’d been citing Greg from FrequentMiler quite frequently.  And after visiting his blog, I quickly realized why.  Since then, I’ve added him as a third blog to my daily digest.

As with Ben and Gary (not to be confused with Ben & Jerry™), I also try to contribute to Greg’s blog whenever I can.  For example:

Crystal Visa Infinite: The best card you can’t get

Last but not least, I finally (after years of procrastinating) signed up for Doctor of Credit’s email digest.  Admittedly, it’s a fairly lengthy read for a busy business traveler, but I highly recommend it… you can’t go wrong there.

Where Do We Go from Here?

Personally, I follow the three blogs above using RSS push to my email Inbox.  That way, I always stay on top of the latest trends.  It can get noisy at times, but I highly doubt that will happen with this blog, given how infrequently I intend to post.  So, that would be my recommendation to you as well.

Thanks for stopping by.  I hope you find the information valuable.
